wedding wednesday: fall color trends

fall is fast approaching - and the color trends are in...
these are from the pantone fashion report, which i found via bella flora blog - a great wedding design company here in dallas.

the colors are (from left to right): american beauty, purple heart, honey yellow, iron, burnt sienna, nomad, rapture rose, warm olive, majolica blue, crème brulee.

already a popular combination is emerging - rapture rose, nomad, and majolica blue - and i love it! it's soft, feminine, but perfectly adaptable to fall. could this be your wedding color scheme?

or perhaps, a burnt sienna, honey yellow and creme brulee combination is more your fancy...

set my table

the internet is full of all kinds of fun tools these days.
i just came across the "set your table" tool by brides.com and bloomingdales.
you select images of chargers, dinnerwear, glasswear, and flatware and the website generates your own unique tablescape.
then, if you are a bride, you can add it all to your bloomingdale's registry with the click of a button. nice.
can i register for my 3 year anniversary?

i'd love to see yours!

wedding wednesday: time lines

no, not the typical wedding time lines that are completely unrealistic and anxiety-producing...
rather, fun and creative ways to incorporate your own historical time line into your wedding decor.
have i ever mentioned how i love personalized weddings?

how about looking at wedding table numbers as an age & match with pictures of bride and groom from when they were that old.
see two examples below:

from party perfect

from ephemera blog

post-script: i am stealing this concept for my 30th wedding anniversary party (yes, i am already planning it) instead the photos will be pictures of husband and i from that year of our marriage.

another idea is to create a time line poster displaying the years of your life. use pins and little flags with individuals names on them as escort cards. place them on the year that bride and groom first met their guests.

images from martha stewart weddings
their concept is a little different, calling it a "flag conversation starter" and
using it more as game, rather than escort cards.
either way, i like it. and you can download the board on their website here.

this past weekend i was browsing around babies r us for one of my many baby showers this season, and i noticed a great little bedding collection from MiGi.
i came home and immediately checked out there website - and i am so glad i did!

these girls (michele and gia) are awesome! i love their website, i wanna buy their books (at home with friends, wedding showers, and baby showers), and i can not wait for their upcoming online programs on how to throw a terrific toddler party, the best baby shower, and a modern tea party!

as if all that wasn't enough, they also sell home & entertaining products! see the items online here.

sole style

i stalk the online blog of a small town boutique that i have only visited once. yes, i admit it.
this store is just.that.dang.cute.
root is in fredericksburg, texas and if you ever stop through, you should visit.
you should also choose to stay upstairs at the roadrunner inn, a fabulous modern hotel. i have not stayed there, but i fully intend to!

well, back to the purpose of this post...

the creative geniuses at root hosted an event called STYLE YOUR SOLE, where several local businesses and organizations participated in the TOMS cause by donating a pair of decorated shoes to a silent auction which will benefit FRIENDS OF TOMS, a non-profit organization that helps to coordinate and fund TOMS shoe drops.
note: the bidding closed on june 5th. but, what a great idea to take back to your city! for more information on hosting a style your sole party/fundraiser check out: http://styleyoursole.tomsshoes.com/

awesome? yes. even more awesome, the great talent of fredericksburg businesses:

here are my favorites:

there are more, so make sure to visit the root blog

closet collection

i have been hiding a closet collection in a folder aptly named "closets" on my desktop for over a year now.
inside: these beautiful images of swoon-worthy closets.
why i love them...
which is your favorite?

1. you have "arrived" if you have a window in your closet and a massive chandelier

2. men's stuff can be attractive too!

3. glass doors display your fashion like fine art.

4. i will wallpaper the inside of a closet someday. that's a promise.

5. the center island is the perfect layout space for a potential outfit and accessories.

6. i am inspired by the organization of massive quantity.

7. the rug, the painted blue walls, the organization, oh my!

8. mirrors, mirrors, and more mirrors!

note: i was a poor blogger and did not save the sources for all of these images. if you have them, please, please e-mail me and i will most definitely credit the appropriate sources. thank you!

stamp a city

growing up i loved to play sim city on the computer.
there was also some fun game that let you build rollercoasters. that was pretty cool too.
but recently, i've more interested in the low-tech.
i think i'd rather build a city with this little stamp set.

the ultra cool philly apt of the bloggers: something's hiding in here

...have you voted today for modern eve? please do - here under "best eye candy blog"!...

i'm sorry victoria,

i won't be shopping at your stores anymore.
i don't know if you've noticed my distance...the truth is i haven't purchased anything from you in awhile.
your high prices and an ongoing internal struggle about your advertising strategies has kept me away.
but, as a result of your latest television sales campaign, i must say, it's time for me to officially move on.
it's not you (i understand you're a business and marketing "sex" sells), it's me (i am tired of feeling insecure about my body and the fact that husband may linger longer at your ads).
i hope there are no hard feelings.

sincerely,

modern eve

instead, i'll be buying more hanky pankys (seen above), and continue to grow my "imitation hanky panky" collection aka. gap body's ultra low lacy dotted bikini. these are by far my favorite: great fit, great style, great price!

bras come from nordstroms. best selection & customer service. if you haven't recieved a bra fitting, please do! it changed my life. ps-victoria's secret doesn't even carry my size (one number size lower, and one cup size higher than i had been wearing).

and other items will come from assorted locations such as: tj maxx, dillards, macy's, kohl's, target, marshall, leohmann's, nordstrom's off the rack and neiman's last call.

wedding wednesday: favor fun

aren't these grab bags a super fun idea for a wedding favor?
these items would make the best photo props!
and the chocolate pennies "take a penny, eat a penny" come on - what creative genius thought of that!
martha stewart weddings - where else?

spending hiatus: but i have to be InStyle

okay readers... it's confession time.
some of you may be new (my readership had doubled in the last month! yay!), so you may not be aware that i decided to take a spending hiatus on all non-essential items until august 19th. [read my original post here]
well, here it goes...

not ordering/paying for soda is not happening.
likewise...more lunches at home - ha!

but, the real confession comes in the fact that i bought something...something completely non-essential.

the InStyle Parties book
purchased at home goods
available on amazon

the truth is i returned something (purchased as gift, but i later changed my mind), and i used the store credit to by the book.
however, i had decided not to use gift cards/merchandise credits during this time either.

but, for some silly reason i couldn't resist. i have moved 4 times with a collection of "party guides" ripped out of old In Style Magazines. i knew these great guides, including menus, recipes, drink picks, and soundtrack suggestions had been compiled and published in a book back in 2006, but never bought it. and there it sat, in the home good's aisle, desperately wanting a good home.

oh well, what's done is done. no need to dwell. instead, here are images from my 2 favorite parties in the book!

GAME NIGHT

favorite thing: filling nested vased with game pieces & dice
