moderneve inspired.

i am just about to head into the 3rd week of my online blogging course [taught by holly becker, of decor8, and leslie shewring, of a creative mint]. my homework assignment this past week was to create some type of inspiration board that best defines my style and the things i want to cover/do cover here on moderneve. no digital boards accepted.

i had such a blast with this assignment today. truthfully, i was a little nervous about it. but, i am so pleased with the result. i inspired myself -- and i'm kinda giddy about it!

left side: stapled project paper stamp-dated "twenty - 10", negative film strip, crewcuts clipping from jcrew catalog in gold photo corners (she makes me smile), rigattoni pasta, paint chips from sherwin williams (the colors of my home), cupcake wrapper, wedding thank you note, and old magazine clipping preserved in clear packaging tape.

right side: "believe" gift tag with clothespin, shoe clip from wedding, jake and micah button, pressed flower, wooden coaster, kate spade note, white paper doily, fake flower (gift from husband), king and queen playing cards, textured paper, j. bennett fitts postcard, 39 cent postage stamp, white mailing label, and round metal rim key tag.

she dreams of cheese shops, persnickety flats,
and very fine leather goods."

and because it's always important to look for inspiration from all angles...

other information [in case you're interested]:

i selected the sherwin williams colors based on vignette in their stir publication back in 2007.
download the .pdf here; pages 5-6
  • gallant gold sw6391
  • butter up sw6681
  • inland sw6452
  • raindrop sw6485
  • sapphire sw6963
  • naval sw6244
  • exclusive plum sw6263

the old magazine clipping is from one of the first editions of O Magazine in 2000.
i clipped it in high school and have held onto it ever since. i just must be my favorite
collection of words. it says,

Silliness. it is a long-lost art undervalued after the age of 12. The
willingness to be totally nonsensical,
give in to your curiosity.
To feel instead of think,
indulge instead of second-guess. Go ahead, no one's
looking. Forget about guidelines, let loose. Sing off-key,
prance around barefoot, stick your fingers in the cookie jar. Then keep the moment with you
like a secret that will light up your smile, your spirit, your day.

here is the information on the postcard:
the image is a photograph j. bennett fitts, from the collection "no lifeguard on duty"
the selected image is entitled: "victorville, 2005, C-Print, 40 by 50 inches"
the postcard was advertising a show at holly johnson gallery back in june-august 2007.

the stamp is from the usps 2006 love collection and is called:
Love: True Blue. for more information, click here.

  7. I'm totally, completely impressed - as usual. Nervousness is understandable; it's difficult to completely explain your point of view with style and class. But you did wonderfully and, as someone who knows you, I can vouch that you're every inch as cool as this idea-board. And then some. =)

  8. Hi Katie -you had nothing to be worried about as your board is really great. It is refined and graphic with lots of interesting details. You also included such a thoughtful written post which says a lot about you. Oh yeah, and your photographs are excellent.
