DIY Batiking

Every once in a while I get a crafting itch. Something inside me gets all inspired and desires to create. I believe it's important to embrace these feelings and see where the urge take you. Earlier this week I came across this tutorial for batiking. Batik is a cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. But in this case Katy, author of Sweet Verbena, uses Elmer's Blue Gel Glue. Her tutorial, found at Ucreate, seemed totally doable for any batik novice. I think I've found my weekend project.

Katy's T-shirts are cute, but I think I might try to batik a pillow, taking my inspiration from the John Robshaw textiles above. I've been in love with John's fabrics for some time now. If I could I would replace every sheet, duvet, comforter and pillowcase in my house with his collection. For the time being, maybe I can start with an Elmer's Glue-Batiked imitation. What do you think? Do you like the Batik look? Has anyone ever done this before?
