"stock the bar" inspiration

i had lunch yesterday with a my good friend, thankfully thrifty, and she was telling me about an upcoming wedding shower that her and her husband are helping to host. she asked me for some party/decorating ideas (thrifty ones, of course!), so decided to whip up this little inspiration board. the theme of the wedding shower is "stock the bar".

{images are from: chalkboard menu - life {sweet} life; cheese labels - via second story view; olives - the finger things; garnishes - style notes; nuts - vittles vamp; wine bottles - sitepoint; tablescape - hostess with the mostess; vases - heart of light; wine vases - backyard bride}

my suggested color scheme includes dark plum, translucent green, and mustard yellow, with splash of black chalkboard paint. these colors are inspired by vintage glass alcohol bottles.

for a
centerpiece, save old wine/beer bottles and use them as vases. i suggest a collection of at least 9 (i prefer odd numbers). larger collection = larger statement. note: make sure to remove labels. do this, by soaking the bottle in warm water for an extended period of time, or by use the miraculous go-gone. you can also spray paint some bottles with chalkboard paint and add them into the mix. it might be fun to stencil on the couple's monogram or wedding date with white chalk.

make sure your
menu matches the theme of your party this is a really big deal for me). since this inspiration board is for a "stock the bar" themed shower, i suggest a traditional, but trendy bar menu: mini sliders, spinach and artichoke dip with pita bread, quesadillas, and a cheese platter. and of course, don't forget the olives and nuts. use a chalkboard to display the menu.

since it is a "stock the bar" themed party, the
bar should be a priority. a great idea is to take several cheap, plastic beverage tubs, like this one, spray paint them with chalkboard paint, and label them appropriately with white chalk. set two on a table (beer and wine), along with any liquor bottles you're providing.
